Pennsylvania is sending letters to struggling families, warning they are at risk of losing food assistance from SNAP. If you need help keeping your benefits, or appealing their loss, contact the Philadelphia Unemployment Project (PUP).
PUP has also launched a social media contest to help spread the word. Can you make a short video telling families they can fight SNAP cuts and appeal if they lose their benefits? Each month, PUP will reward the best #SNAPback video that informs people on how to fight for their benefits and feed their children.
Also in this week’s Hall Monitor, Paul Steinke, executive director of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, says he’s relieved to see the school district isn’t pushing for widespread demolition of historic school buildings.
Steinke spoke to the Hall Monitor about the benefits of preserving, rather than bulldozing, historic structures.

Our reporters sit through hours of city council meetings, dig through piles of documents, and ask tough questions other media overlook. Because we’re committed to addressing Philadelphia’s poverty crisis — and challenging those who sustain it. If you think this work is important too, please support our journalism.
