We monitor the most powerful halls in one of America’s poorest big cities.
Philadelphia Hall Monitor reporters sit through hours of City Hall meetings, dig through documents, and ask tough questions to bring you reliable, independent news and context other media overlook. Why? Because we’re committed to addressing Philly’s poverty epidemic and the local decisions that sustain it. Will you support our coverage?

A message from our founders
In 2021, an up-and-coming journalist named Lawrence McGlynn teamed up with respected city hall reporter Denise Clay-Murray and longtime consumer advocate Lance Haver to launch The Philadelphia Hall Monitor.
Four years and several surprisingly prestigious award nominations later, we’d like to think we’ve become your trusted source for local government news, SEPTA coverage, and consumer survival tips that you won’t find anywhere else.
We are dedicated to doing this journalism and holding Philly city hall accountable, and we are truly grateful for your support.
