Kids ‘Collateral Damage’ In Philly’s New School Plan

18 school closures, 16 redrawn catchment areas, 0 public consultation: The Philadelphia school district’s new facilities plan “makes no sense,” says education reporter Lisa Haver.

The district’s plan is based on imaginary funding, and features misinformation, missing enrolment figures, and a lack of data, Haver told the Hall Monitor livestream on April 1, 2026.

The district didn’t consult students, teachers or parents, she says, yet it plans to casually kick kids out of of their schools.

Even high schools with high graduation rates are being targeted for closure.
