Philly councilmember Isaiah Thomas wants to make it easier for local councillors to run for state or federal seats. That’s why he proposed a bill to reform the resign-to-run rule.
If local officials didn’t have to resign to run for state seats, we might see greater Philadelphia representation state-wide, he says.
Thomas spoke to Hall Monitor co-hosts Denise Clay-Murray and Larry McGlynn about his bill — which council passed and will now be presented to voters as a ballot question in the May election — on this week’s livestream.
He also spoke to the Hall Monitor about the school district’s evolving facilities plan. “Thank god that the plan didn’t go through as is. We’ve kind of moved away from that,” he said, noting the school hearings are ongoing.
