Is Philly’s HOME Plan Really the Answer to Affordable Housing?

The HOME initiative could be a good first step towards dealing with the housing emergency, says Reclaim Philadelphia’s Seth Anderson-Oberman, but will it really help the people who need it most?

“We are in a housing emergency in Philadelphia,” he says. “We know that there’s a need for 65,000 deeply affordable units in Philadelphia right now. There’s a shortage right now to house 65,000 people in Philadelphia.”

The HOME plan can help but the mayor’s version needs to be amended to focus on helping the city’s low-income residents, so they can stay in Philadelphia, he told Hall Monitor reporter Vanessa Maria Graber on the Dec. 10 livestream
